Make money in a home staging business

If you're serious about starting and growing your own home staging business (also called house staging, house fluffing, real estate enhancement or property styling), it's important to choose the right home staging course so that you'll learn how to make money as a home stager instead of wasting your time.

There's nothing like the feeling of elation and freedom that comes from enjoying what you do and knowing that you're earning a living and helping others at the same time.

Students of the Staging Diva Home Staging Business Training Program range in age from their 20s to their 70s!

Some have been stay-at-home moms for years, others are leaving dead-end jobs or high-flying careers. Many are newly divorced, newly retired, or recovering from cancer and deciding it's time to follow their dreams. About 2% of our students are men.

What they all share in common is a love of decorating, interest in real estate and a keen desire to shape their own future doing what they love.

If you'd like to learn more about Staging Diva and about how to make money in your own home staging business, please visit my regular blog, Home Staging Business Report. That's where I post 3 articles a week and it's all free.

Start taking your before photos now!

When you have a natural talent for decorating, the urge to decorate is always there. If you are in any way interested in becoming a home stager or interior redesigner, there's a good chance you are constantly redecorating your home and/or working on a new home improvement project.

Whether or not you have any intention of redecorating any part of your home in the near future, I suggest you start photographing anything you don’t like right now, even if you’re only in the early staging of dreaming about starting your own home staging business.

Whenever you’re in a room or a corner in your home (the basement, attic, laundry room, spare bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, home office, junk room) that makes you cringe, take a picture. To find out why I'm suggesting you do this, read this post on the Home Staging Business Report.

What pomegranates can teach you about marketing

Even though I love pomegranates and eat their nutritious seeds regularly, for years I haven't bought the whole fruit. Instead of dealing with the hassle of removing the antioxidant-packed seeds or "arils" from the rind of the pomegranate, I would buy the seeds from specialty stores for a ridiculous amount of money so I could easily throw them into a salad, pancakes or just to snack on.

That changed on a recent trip to the grocery store. Read about the marketing lesson I got from a pomegranate company in an article on the Home Staging Business Report.

How to handle real estate agents requesting cheap home staging

Whether you live in a small town or a major center in Canada, the US or abroad, you’re going to hear about home stagers charging less for their time than you.

Most of these “price complaints” will likely come from real estate agents who are already afraid their clients will want them to pay for your services. Since agents make the same amount of commission regardless of what their marketing expenses are on a property, their goal is to spend as little as possible to ensure the widest profit margin.

For some more advice on dealing with real estate agents requesting cheap staging, visit this post on the Home Staging Business Report.

Home stagers help real estate investors

Imagine for a moment you're a new real estate investor or “house flipper.” You’ve just finished sinking a fortune into renovating your first property and you’re sure this is going to be the first of many successful “flips.” Instead, month after month of mortgage payments become due with no interest from potential buyers.

This was the money-losing and stressful scenario faced by clients of Paige Holm and Aron Bailey Bruser, Staging Diva Graduates and co-owners of Win-Win Home Staging and Redesign.
